While many of the latest technological inventions are designed to make our lives easier, every once in a while, someone invents something that is so significantly profound that we all wonder why it hasn’t been thought of before. For families who own a swimming pool and have young children, one of the greatest concerns is how you can prevent your child from falling in, with no one around to pull them out.
Despite regulations on pool covers and fences, every summer there are dozens of incidents where children have accidently fallen in and drowned. One father living in Gilbert, Arizona was particularly disturbed by the statistics published by the Phoenix fire department. In 2018 alone, there were six deaths due to drowning, and 27 emergency calls made.
Lee Kambar decided that there must be a way to prevent such tragedies from occurring, and he came up with the concept for the Morningstar SOS.
Morningstar SOS Floating Drone
The idea behind Morningstar is to have a remote drone system inside the swimming pool that will alert you when someone is approaching the pool, or if someone is in the water.
Using all of his creative and technical abilities, Lee came up with the star-shaped drone that will float harmlessly in the centre of the water. You can think of the system as a watchdog for your pool and its surrounding areas. Whenever someone approaches the area or enters the pool, you will receive an alert on your phone. You can then activate the live video feed to see above and below the water. This invention is designed to save children but it also makes parents lives a little less stressful, and allows them to enjoy a few favourite activities, such as reading a book or playing casino games, safe in the knowledge that they’ll be alerted if any danger arises.
Motion Sensors and Facial Recognition Technology
The Morningstar SOS system uses the latest facial recognition technology as well as motion sensors to pick up movement in the vicinity. The core part of the drone is the duel camera system. Appearing as two large bobble eyes, a 360-degree rotating camera is mounted on the top and bottom of the drone to give you a full view both on top and under the water.
When leaving the house for the day, you can set the drone to monitor your pool, knowing that your family is safe. The system is constantly monitoring the ripples and movement on the water, which can be calibrated for very small disturbances, or larger ripples due to wind. The moment a wave or ripple is detected an alert is sent to your phone, where you can access the cameras and scan the area.
The facial recognition technology is used to alert you when unsupervised children are entering the area. Again, you will get a notification via the app that your child is nearby. You can then activate the cameras to see what is going on. If you suspect there is a problem, or if you see your child has fallen in, there is an emergency response feature built into the app that can send help to the exact address. With drowning’s and swimming pool incidents, every second counts, and having emergency response there just 60 seconds earlier could mean the difference between life and death.
Security for Your Swimming pool
Lee Kambar hopes that the Morningstar SOS system will help parents monitor their children’s activities as well as send help if needed. Since Lee is just a regular dad without significant financial backing, he approached the Mars Rising Network in order to file a provisional and design patent. This also resulted in professional design of the invention and software. Lee is currently looking for company to licence the product and get it into the global marketplace where it can help save more lives around the world.
