People with pets are sure to attest to the fact that their pets truly make their lives better. It’s a fantastic feeling to have a constant companion, who is nearly always eager to do just about anything to spend time with you, whether it may be going for a walk, relaxing on a beach, or just cuddling together on a cold, winter’s night. Many people who don’t have pets might not believe you when you tell them that your pet makes your life better, whether it might be in terms of having a walking companion, or even just someone who is always there for you to talk to (although they might not say much back).
However, there is finally some proof to pet owners coming out tops across most aspects in life. According to a recent study, owning a pet will not only make you a happier person in general, but also more likely to be a success.
A recent study investigated 1,000 pet owners, and rated them against 1,000 who did not own pets. The research showed, apparently, that pet owners were better off in just about every way possible. Not only was it seen that pet owners are happier, but also far more likely to consider themselves a success. Case in point; pet owners, on average, earned about £4,000 more a year.
Not only that, the list keeps getting longer. Pet owners were more likely to be married and have a child, although this being a benefit is debatable, as well as have a university education, and have landed what they consider to be a dream job.
You think that’s the end of it? No, there’s more.
Pet owners also do about twice as much exercise. You might be thinking that pets are the furry equivalent to having the answer to all life’s challenges, and it certainly seems that way.
One wonders why pets in general aren’t more coveted. You may be thinking that perhaps the study has it back to front, and that those who have achieved all these things are then more likely to get a pet, but that’s just overthinking it.

The List Goes On
If you weren’t already rushing off to grab the nearest thing with four legs and fur, you’ll be pleased to know that the statistics provide even more evidence. 9 out of 10 pet owners agree that a furry friend is good for their health and well-being. Those with pets are also, and this is a big one, more likely to have paid off their mortgage. That’s a rate of 69% to 60%. So, if you thought the benefits were just mental and health related, think again.
43% of pet owners have admitted to the fact that the animal means they will always have someone to talk too, which is great for those who don’t have many interested ears in their vicinity. You thought you’d have to make friends? Wrong. You need only buy a cat, who is forced to listen by virtue of needing to be fed.
Get Up and Go
As a few final statistics, just to seal the deal for the minority who remain unconvinced. 45% agree to the statement that their pet is the main reason for exercising, while 31% have said that their pet gives them a purpose in life.
There’s little more incentive to get up and go than having a dog that wants a walk, plus, you have the added benefit of meeting other like-minded people when you take Fido out for a stroll, so if you are looking for company, your pet could well be the answer too!
Now that you’re convinced, get out there, adopt a pet, and make it part of your life today. The benefits are numerous and there really are so many wonderful animals looking for homes.
